A doctor once said to me that losing weight, especially if you have a lot of weight to get rid of, is one of the hardest things to do. Unlike quitting smoking, when, in theory at least, you can throw away the packet of cigarettes before you go to bed and never smoke again; when you want to lose weight fast - or slow - it's not as if you can wake up the next day having lost 50 pounds! Five Weight Loss Secrets to Start the New Year

Are there really weight loss secrets? Some may agree with this and others will disagree but what I am about to show you is a simple way that I stumbled upon a simple secret, well my friend's secret actually, that has helped me to shed ten pounds in ten days.

After reading many e-books, and books covering weight loss, I was becoming so frustrated with all the nonsense that they were describing. Many spoke of Low-Carb diets, I also tried that, it was more or less starving myself to death, and you know I am the type who loves cakes, and just about anything sweet I can get my hands on. The weight loss information that some of the books provided were very poor.

Okay, now back to my story...

I must be honest, a good friend of mine is who told me about a simple way to loose weight, that did not involve any type of harsh dieting. At first I did not believe him, but I listened anyway, and pretended not to be interested.

That evening I got home and decided to do a little browsing online, I started doing research for weight loss advice, and came across some very informative web sites, that really made me think.

Now, to be honest, much of the weight problems that I am facing are simply because of my own eating habits. But, the big question that lingers in my head is; How do I stop myself from over eating?

I just love food, and I know you do too, otherwise you would not be reading this. To end off this long winding story, I would like to share a few of my weight loss secrets with you that worked well for me:

1. Start the morning with a light breakfast
Your breakfast should consist of crackers and a couple fruit (a banana and an apple), no bread or sausage, steak or eggs.

2. For lunch, a piece of steamed fish and vegetables
Lunch is where we get to add a little more substance to our meal, you can have steamed fish and vegetables or baked chicken( no oil or butter) with vegetables.

3. A little exercise to get the blood pumping
You have to get off the couch and start doing some type of exercise, it can be just a thirty minute walk or a 30 minute exercise routine at a gym.

4. For dinner, a light tuna or chicken salad
You have to set a shut off time for eating, your last meal should be around 8 P.M. At this time you will have a light tuna or chicken salad. Should you still feel hungry after nine or ten, just eat some fruit, no more meals after the cut off time.

5. Drink a ton of water
Many forget the most important part. and that is to drink as much water as you can daily. You have to eliminate the juices, sodas and all the sweet stuff from your daily routine. Water should become your main drink.

We all know that losing weight involves eating healthy quantities of healthy food, and getting plenty of healthy exercise, so that isn't the secret either.

No, the secret to lasting, effective weight loss is... (drum roll)... PLEASURE!

It is no use going on some crazy diet because it will drive you mad, and at the first possible opportunity you will give it up and go back to eating what you love. It is no use spending 3 hours a day in the gym if you hate going to the gym! As soon as you hit your weight loss target, you'll start finding very good excuses for why you can't make it to the gym this week, or even this month!

Believe it or not, In the huge array of foods available to us, there are lots of good, healthy non-fattening options that you can get great pleasure from eating. You just need to use a bit of imagination and look for them.

Believe or not, healthy exercise doesn't have to be boring. If you hate the gym, don't go to the gym.

Love playing golf? Play golf, but remember -- this is supposed to be exercise, so carry your own clubs and walk briskly between holes. No golf buggies!

Love dogs? Get a dog. A border collie, or some other breed that needs a lot of exercise -- for this job, lapdogs need not apply! Take the dog down to your local park as often as you can and chase him about, throw frisbees for him. You'll both have a great time, you'll boost your metabolism and burn fat.

Hate dogs, but love cycling? Buy a bicycle and ride it as often as you can! Commuting by bike (if you live within, say,  8-10 miles of where you work) is a great way of losing weight and saving money at the same time.

I don't like golf. I do love dogs, but I can't commit to one -- I travel about too much. I also love cycling and that is my weight loss exercise secret. You need to find something energetic that you love too -- dancing, swimming, hiking... there will be something. Keep looking until you find it, then do it, regularly and with enthusiasm.

You may not think it, but cavemen possessed weight loss secrets that we can use today. Without even knowing it, they had the perfect diet and exercise program for weight loss that we can learn from even in today's high tech, modern world.

You see, around 40,000 years ago, mankind had it rough. They were nomads wandering their world, hunting and gathering for food. There were no corner fast food joints or convenience stores open 24 hours a day.

Mr. Caveman couldn't walk to his 'fridge and get a snack. If he, or his family, was hungry, he had to go and hunt down an animal of some kind. They foraged the forests and savannas, or jungles for nuts, berries, tubers, and anything else that was edible.

Let's just say, it was a tough time for mankind, but this is also a point in our history when we were probably the healthiest. Yes, they died young, but not because of weight related issues. They simply didn't possess the medicine to fight diseases the way we do today, nor did they live in safe cul de sacs that protected them against attacks from ferocious animals.

Cavemen were no different physiologically than you and me. If you had a time machine and could kidnap a caveman baby, bring him back to the future, and you could raise him as your own, you wouldn't be able to tell him apart from anyone else.

They didn't sport the heavy eyebrow ridges, nor were they exceptionally hairy as portrayed in certain car insurance commercials. They were like us.

They looked like us, they even had our thinking capacity and though processes. Of course, they were also shaped by their environment, and theirs was a harsh one. Yet somehow, they possessed weight loss secrets we can learn from today.

Their bodies adapted to that environment over hundreds of thousands of years. They never knew when they would get their next meals. It could be tomorrow, it could be next week, so they adapted the ability to store excess calories as fat so they could be used during times of famine.

Of course now, famine in developed countries is extremely rare. Food is plentiful. We don't have to hunt anything if we don't want to, and we definitely don't have to scour the forest for food.

We live in a time when our knowledge of the world is an all time high. But with all of our technology, all of our knowledge, why are we still so fat? Why is obesity so rampant? Why are people dying of weight related problems?

We know what causes us to be fat. We know how not to be fat.

Our ancestors didn't know any of this. All they were concerned with was where their their next meal was coming from, yet rarely would you find a fat caveman. Of course, since I didn't live in that time, nor did anyone else I know, this is merely a conjecture.

But, imagine our caveman ancestor for a second. First of all, they were constantly on the go. They had to in order to just be able to find food since they didn't have the capacity to store food for long periods of time. They also had to carry their belongings with them so imagine carrying a heavy backpack loaded with your worldly possessions, and having to walk several miles per day, every day. Occasionally, they would also have to run very fast, even sprint, to get away from an attacking animal, or perhaps another caveman. Talk about awesome, fat burning workouts.

Now, imagine their diet. They eat several small meals throughout the day consisting of nuts, berries, and protein rich insects (yucky, I know, but very nutritious). They don't eat grains, and they don't eat anything hydrogenated. They never eat sugars which means they never drink soda, or eat candy. They never eat anything made of white flour which means no breads, or doughnuts.

Everything they eat is completely organic and natural. How do you imagine such a person would look like? Would they sport the pot belly so common among modern day humans? Of course not.

On the contrary--they would be very lean, and physically strong with a great work capacity and exceptional endurance. They wouldn't have high cholesterol, or Type II diabetes, or any of the myriad of diseases associated with poor eating, and a fat waistline.

Now imagine if you could transplant such a lifestyle and diet to the modern world, and add today's medicine, and lack of dying from woolly mammoth attacks, you would have the ultimate weight loss program. That's the weight loss secret that the caveman intuitively knew, and somehow we forgot.
